It’s ADHD Awareness Month, and like a good ADHDer, I’m just getting to it now! Why is ADHD Awareness as important as other things that get a whole month dedicated to them, like Medical Librarians and Pickled Peppers? Well, one reason is that a lot of people have an ADHD brain. Another is that lots of people have an ADHD brain but don’t know it yet, and awareness is the first step. Another is that we are still, in 2021, talking a lot of shit about things like ADHD, and that shit gets internalized and re-purposed into all sorts of fun stuff, like shame, self-doubt, and depression. When we talk about things like ADHD in more neutral and nuanced ways, they lose a lot of their stigma.
Oh and seems like I should have elaborated but this is a picture of my headphones, which got spun off of my head and into m in-use kitchenaid mixer, because, I like to ride the edge.
This is so helpful, Sarah, THANK YOU! I need to work my way through some of the stuff you shared, but I took at look at Dani Donovan's work and it is awesome. Thanks for helping demystify and de-stigmatize ADHD.
I love the picture of...mixer? Dough? Maybe earbud ? I don't understand it, but love it.
As always, so much to think about here.. always hits me to think about how important self compassion and acceptance are for all of us! As the re- and self parenting goes on...
Hi Sarah, new here, exploring posts and I was gonna ask something. Uh... Oh yeah! Yesterday I googled the phrase "how to clean your room if you have adhd." I didn't find anything remotely useful. I just wanted directions, or someone to convince me that it wasn't necessary to rid my room, but rather to just put some (10? 100?) things away. Can you tell me how to clean my room? Also, how do you write in a linear fashion? I am also a nonlinear thinker and it takes me 4 months to write 1500 words coherently. Tips? THANKS
